REAL WEDDING

Thomas and Emma’s New Zealand lakeside wedding was breathtaking, the moody sky and endless horizon was beautifully dramatic.

Emma came to me on the hunt for something modern and different that would suit her contemporary outdoor theme and was recommended by her sister in law who was also one of my brides.

Living in London, but originally from New Zealand, wanted a relaxed, modern look and we designed together a guipure lace dress, that had a hidden ultra flattering corset and the softest silk crepe lining.

To really fit Emmas style we incorporated a split leg and sheer train to add ultimate laidback drama.

“ I loved working with Emma, her ultra modern look is contemporary, yet feminine and will stand the test of time, when looking back on these breathtaking photos “

Emma has an amazing job she is an archeologist, which I think is the coolest ever.

She is glamorous but also loves to explore the world and is happiest trekking the beautiful New Zealand changing landscapes, from Glaciers to sandy beaches, her homeland has it all.

She explains below, her wedding, creating her beautiful wedding dress within my studio and shares gorgeous images from her wedding day.

THE DETAILS

Tell us your love story

Tom and I met through a mutual friend while living at different ends of New Zealand.

We did a bit of long distance travelling to each other, before moving to the sunshine capital of New Zealand and then further a field to London, our current home.

Favourite wedding day moment

There’s just so many, we smiled and laughed our way through the entire day but to name a few: walking down the isle amid all the anticipation, excitement, smiles and tears of our family and friends; after the ceremony once all our guests had headed to the reception venue and we had a brief moment together to take it all in; the laughter and tears during the speeches; and the late night post reception dip in the lake.

Location

Lake Wakatipu, Glenorchy. In the South Island region of Otago, New Zealand.

The dramatic landscape was filmed in the Lord of the Rings and the contrast of the cool grey stones on the shoreline. The endless lake and dramatic skyline captured our love for the outdoors perfectly.

Why did you choose Sally Bean Couture

I originally went to Sally to gets some tips on how best to make the style of dressed I loved work for my body shape.

While we were talking Sally did a sketch of the dress that I was describing and it was love at first sight she even had the perfect lace already in her workshop, it was meant to be!

How did you feel wearing Sally Bean Couture?

Amazing, the beautifully tailored made corset was so comfortable and I was able to sit, eat, dance and even climb over a fence with ease.

I felt like my dress reflected my personality and gave me the freedom to enjoy the day while still looking gorgeous and feminine.

She took into consideration the location and style of my wedding to ensure that my dress would be practical and comfortable to make the most of our outdoor wedding.

Describe your experience creating your dream dress with Sally Bean Couture

From the start Sally was amazing at getting me involved in the entire design process from picking the materials to discussing the pros and cons of various design ideas, to placing the lace.

She was great at giving guidance on how best to enhance my assets and hide the niggly parts and was incredibly meticulous always placing, replacing and adjusting pieces of lace during our fittings to ensure everything was perfect.

Her attention to detail was amazing down to the beautiful blue ribbon sewn into the dress as my something blue.

Honeymoon Destination

We couldn’t decide on one location so decided to visit various locations in Europe and the US… Everywhere from Iclandic Fjords to The Statue of Liberty.

Marriage to us means

Lots of love and laughter. Moving home to New Zealand and the birth of our baby daughter.
